This is One Of Our Favorite Caravan Parks

This is One Of Our Favorite Caravan Parks

Boy do we miss this place with not being able to travel outside of Melbourne right now.
This place used to be called Boat Haven Caravan Park at Ebdon, but know it is called Discovery Park - Lake Hume. It may have changed hands over the years a few times but their standards have never changed. It is located as the name suggests on the Victorian side of Lake Hume.

When you walk through this caravan park it is like you are in a very beautiful and very expensive resort. But it's not expensive at all. We just love this spot, it certainly ticks all the boxes for people who love to holiday.

It has on-suite powered sites, powered sites, sites right next to the lake, and sites that over look the lake. It also has camping sites and very beautiful cabins. It is very well catered for families with lots of activities for the children to do.

One year for my Mother's Birthday we took my parents up with us and paid for them to stay in one of the cabins that was right on the lake with very beautiful views of the lake, while we stayed in our caravan. They fell in love with it just as we have.

Just one lesson we have learned about this park, is that it is a very busy caravan park if you go on long weekends, public holidays or even on some normal weekends. We tend to go during the week, it is much quieter.

It is situated not far from the Army bases so at 6am, 6pm and 10pm you can very softly here the bugle playing. The 10pm one is just lovely but eyry to hear on a still night, coming through the trees. Just puts goose bumps on your arms. We have never been woken up by the 6am bugle call but most mornings we are up or at least awake and hear it faintly.

This is a place that you can just stay here and relax and not leave. But we are not that type of travelers, we like to explore everything the area has to offer. And there is so much to do in this area.

One of the amenities rooms there.

Some of things we have found to do while staying in this area is boating, skiing, bike riding, walks, and gold panning. If you are prepared to drive there is a lovely park in Albury right in the main road. We love their old train station, and lots of nice eateries. One of the places we like to eat at in Albury in The Club. It has an all you can it bar and a good roast with a yummy desert bar. You can also order meals there. It has some good bands and a line dancing and rock n roll club meet there on a Friday night to dance to the rock n roll band, for some good entertainment.

Some other place we enjoy to visit while in the area are of course Beechworth, the Lake Hume Dame, Yackandandah for some honey taste testing and even some Yackandandah lemon curd.

The last time we stayed up there we visited the Bandiana Army Museum. To visit this place you have to pre book on the internet, because of security reason. And it is only open on a Wednesday. To get in you have to wait in the waiting bay outside and let them know you are here at the front box. They then have to check with the base and the museum if we are booked in and if it is still ok for us to go in. We waited nearly 1/2 hour before we received clearance, so patience is vital. But we totally understood why. It's all about security here and rightfully so. I must admit I was only visiting this place to make sure that we did something manly for my Hubby, like visiting a car museums. But I got a big surprise. It took us all afternoon and there was still the weapons and lots more that we didn't get to see. It was amazing, we can defiantly recommend this museum to anyone and will go back again.

Lake Hume Dame

A waterfall just outside of Beechworth.

No we didn't find any gold there that day but there certainly is plenty there for those interested in finding some gold.

In Beechworth just of the main road is a healthy cafe that I always have to go to, because they make this really yummy Hazelnut and Raspberry Gateau, soooo yummy. And my Hubby loves to go to the hotel across the road and have a bread and butter pudding. This bread and butter pudding is very much over  .05, so make sure when you have it, you are not the designated driver. They soak the orange peel in Cointreau. And be prepared to wait for it. They definitely haven't forgot about you, because they make it up for you right there and then. It takes nearly an 45minutes to cook, and well worth the wait. The serving is more than enough for 2 or 3 people. And of course you can't go to Beechworth without buying a cake or two from Beechworth bakery. There is so much to see and eat and do in Beechworth, it's well worth a visit there, but it can get very busy, especially on the weekends. But still very nice.

There is still a lot more than I have shared on here today to see and do in this area. And what better way top your day than with a beautiful sunset. What more could you ask for.

How I Built A Mountain with Toilet Paper And PVC Glue

How I Built A Mountain with  Toilet Paper                             And PVC Glue  There are many techniques to use to cover your mountains and hills, like using plaster of paradise or paper Mache using paper and home made glue. I did give much consideration into using one of these two techniques, but the technique I finally decided to use, was toilet paper and PVC glue. And I am really glad I have. Because now it is finished, it is as hard as a rock but light like fibre glass. It was kind of funny at the time choosing this technique been as in this time when I had decided to start doing this, toilet paper was very hard to get and you had to que up to buy just one packet. And no I wasn't one of those people that had an abundance of it left over and needed to figure out how to use it...

Who Remembers The Mr Whippy Van

Who Remembers The Mr. Whippy Van Who remembers the Mr. Whippy van driving around the neighborhood of Melbourne, Victoria? I do, it was one of my precious memories of growing up. He would play his music on his loud speaker so that everyone no matter where you were could hear that Mr. Whippy was coming. We would all run out of the house so watch him coming especially on those really hot afternoons. While you would wait you could see all the other children and parents running out to their nature strips to purchase one of his yummy soft serve ice creams. Sometimes my parents would buy us all one and sometimes they wouldn’t. Now as a grownup I realize that they couldn’t always afford to buy us all one. But that still didn’t stop us from running out to watch Mr. Whippy do his thing. Mr. Whippy looked the splitting image of Elvis P...
